VIRTUAL EVENT: ART DIRECTION & DESIGN

Breaking the Sound Barrier

Five weeks of actionable insights featuring our biggest clients, podcast talent, and top execs brought SiriusXM, Pandora, and Stitcher under one “roof” at [virtual] CES 2021. My role was art direction for the campaign design with UI/UX by our agency partner Bukwild, and to execute the social extension through motion graphics, sizzle reels, social media assets, and in-session graphics.

The Concept

“Theater of the mind” refers to the picture audio paints in a listener’s mind. It's a powerful creative device to convey action (the revving engine of a speeding car), express emotion (a quivering voice) or to create a sense of place (crashing waves).” With that theme in mind, I looked for inspiration that represents what we collectively see when we close our eyes—to listen to a favorite song, a podcast, etc.—as the setting for this immersive experience.

The platform’s UI and behavior looked to video apps and digital conferences that encourage fullscreen viewing. A vibrant focal point (nicknamed “the Orb”) served to engage viewers and help our conversation stand out amid the online buzz.
